Maryanna Brown was born and raised in Palmer, Alaska where she grew up running track (hurdles) and cross country,  Nordic skiing, and snowshoe racing.   In high school, she was an all-American snowshoer and junior national champion – something she attributes to the unpopularity of the sport at the time.

After graduating from high school, she ventured much further east to study history at Dartmouth.  Despite not really knowing how to swim, she rowed for a few years during college, ultimately hanging up her oars in favor of additional sleep and softer hands.  She currently resides in Seattle, WA where she can be found managing mountain guides at Alpine Ascents International, backcountry skiing with her golden retriever, and hunting for vegan baked goods.

Mary races for Spokeswomen Racing, specializing in cyclocross and cross country mountain biking.  She is also an avid rock climber, mountaineer, backpacker and a newly converted trail runner.    She is super psyched to start adventure racing and has already dusted off her compass in preparation.
