‘World’s Toughest Race’ Returns With New Home, New Contestants

It seems appropriate that World’s Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji returns at a time when travel has been severely restricted around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The series, which ran from 1995 to 2002 on networks including Discovery and USA, has a new home, streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting Friday. The race is the brainchild of Mark Burnett, who went on to produce SurvivorThe Apprentice and other reality programs. Bear Grylls hosts the show.

The new edition of Toughest Race has the same concept as the original, following teams as they undertake wild challenges and showcasing the unbelievable scenery, which has new resonance now that travel options are so limited.
